I've been going to South Beach since we called it 5th Street Beach in the 1950s. Then it became seedy and then older folks who couldn't afford to live anyplace else, close to the water, moved in. South Beach slid downhill in the 70s and early 80s, but in the last ten years the older generation has passed, and South Beach has become a cosmopolitan nightspot. The art deco buildings and furnishings make it a living tribute to architecture of the past. It's nice to have photos of all this. It has turned out to be one of my ongoing projects. These are some recent scenes that were part of a newspaper layout earlier this year.
I am shooting all Fuji 800 asa negative film now. I'd rather shoot 'chromes, but the 800 Super G Press is the best of the film that the paper I work for buys.
We have no push processing, I don't like flash, and I hand-hold almost everything.
